Teasing mill, c.18th century. Model of a teasing mill, also known as a gig-mill. This was used to raise the pile on the surface of woollen cloth. The mill has a large, open drum, between the bars of which can be secured metal frames to carry teazles. The cloth is raised by its contact with the rotating drum whilst being wound from the rollers.
