Between 1924 and 1935, Malcolm Campbell (1885-1948) broke the world land speed record nine times. The first of these records took place at Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire, where a speed of 146.16 mph was achieved in a 350 bhp 12 cylinder Sunbeam motor car. The following year Campbell became the first person to exceed 150 mph, in the same car at the same place. The highest speed reached by Campbell was in 1935; a speed of 301.13 mph was recorded at Bonneville, Utah. The record stood until 1937.
