‘Travel in 1910’. Oil painting by Cuthbert Hamilton Ellis, made in 1951, for a British Railways, London Midlands Region (BR/LMR) carriage print. The Furness Railway provided services in the county now known as Cumbria, in the north-west of England from 1846 to 1923. This was one of a series of paintings commissioned for carriage prints by George Dow, advertising manager of BR/LMR during the 1950s.
