'Pleasure. One Way to Pleasure - By Motor-Bus’, poster, 1921.

Poster advertising travel by motor-bus, showing a group of gypsies singing and dancing. One man is seen playing a concertina, while another plays a mouth-organ. Artwork by C R W Nevinson (1889-1946). Printed by The Avenue Press Ltd (L Upcott Gill & Son Ltd), 55-57 Drury Lane, London WC2. The first motor bus ran in London in 1899, but due to problems of reliability, bus services did not become successful in the city until around 1910. By the 1920s innovations such as pneumatic tyres and covered tops led to improved passenger comfort and enabled buses to overtake trams as the principal means of overland public transport in London.
