Roman Abacus.

Replica, made in 1974, of a Roman hand abacus. The counters slide in grooves. Like the Japanese abacus the counters above the bar are worth five and those below are worth one. The columns are worth from one million on the left to a twelfth in the second to right. The right-hand column is sub-divided to read twelths of twelths.
