Photogravure from an early X-ray of a rat from 'Versuche Uber Photographie' by Dr Josef M Eder and E Valenta. X-ray or 'new' photography caused a sensation when it was discovered by German scientist Professor Roentgen (1845-1923) in 1895. The X-rays were also called radiographs or cathode rays.
