Engraved plate by C Haussard from 'Traite de Meteorologie' (1774) by le P Cotte. Cotte was Canon of the Cathedral of Laon, Priest of the Oratory and Cure of Montmorency and a man of scientific letters. He was linked with the Academie des Sciences in Paris and the Meteorological Society of the Palatinate at Mannheim, amongst others. His published work was very well illustrated with the best equipment of his day. This particular book contains a history of weather observations, illustrations and complete descriptions of the instruments that would be required, and measurements taken between 1741 and 1770.
