Liverpool Exchange station, 1921

The approach to Liverpool Exchange station, 28 August 1921. This station was completed in the 1850s as the terminus for the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. It was expanded in the 1870s and 1880s to deal with the increased amount of traffic in this busy area of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. In 1904 work began on the line that ran from this station to Southport, to electrify it, to create a faster and more efficient service and cut down on congestion.
